Literacy Unit: Poetry

We launched our week with our new literacy unit exploring poetry.

To begin, we shared our thoughts and feelings about poetry and then placed them on a continuum from negative to positive.

We discussed why some of us feel positively and others negatively.

My personal challenge is to see where our feelings will be placed on this same line mid-unit and at the end of unit.

It will be interesting to see if some of us change........

We have been learning different techniques to read poems that can give them different meanings or moods by the expressions we use.  We have been having some laughs using foreign accents, reading poems like an angry person etc to see how the mood of poems can change.

In writing poetry, we experimented with different ways we can structure poems and how the way we structure them gives them different meanings and moods.

We have also explored what personification is and have been focusing on writing structured personification poems to create moods:

We will continue sharing our poems throughout our unit.

I'm sure your child would love to spend some time sitting with you and sharing their poems and what they were thinking about whilst creating them.
